On 20 September 2022, the Ministry of Health in Uganda, together with the World Health Organization - Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO), confirmed an outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) due to Sudan ebolavirus in Mubende District, Uganda.
Recent epidemics of Ebola virus disease in Africa have increased the potential risk of Ebola virus transmission via donated blood and blood components, cells, tissues and organs (substances of human origin; SoHO), not only locally and regionally in Africa, but also in non-endemic unaffected areas such as Europe due to population movements.
When people with infectious tuberculosis (TB) cough, sneeze or otherwise exhale droplets, they expose others to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. After a person is exposed, they can be infected with M. tuberculosis without having TB disease and without signs and symptoms. This is called latent TB infection (LTBI).
Immunisation is the cornerstone of polio eradication. Two types of vaccine are available: an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and a live attenuated OPV.
Hantavirus infections are widely distributed across Europe, with the exception of some Mediterranean countries which reported a very low number of cases.
