About the network

The main objectives of ERLI-Net are to carry out virological surveillance of human influenza and to ensure that data are shared through the European Influenza Surveillance Network (EISN) reporting mechanisms in a timely manner.

Biosafety

The network conforms to EC Directive 2000/54/EC and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for human and avian influenza viruses regarding laboratory containment procedures.

Influenza laboratory quality control

In accordance with the Key Tasks, ERLI-Net laboratories should participate in external quality assurance (EQA) schemes. EQA panels are distributed by both ERLI-Net and the WHO.

Laboratory surveillance of influenza

Surveillance of influenza virus infection at the European level requires close collaboration between virologists, epidemiologists and sentinel GP networks.
