European Network for STI Surveillance

The European Network for STI Surveillance aims to improve collaboration, build capacity and facilitate robust dissemination of information on sexually transmitted infections (STI) to inform public health policy and planning across Europe. Diseases under surveillance at the EU level include:

  • chlamydia infection 
  • lymphogranuloma venereum
  • gonorrhoea
  • syphilis and
  • congenital syphilis.

The major activities within the STI surveillance network are:

  • Annual report for STI Surveillance
  • Annual report for the European gonococcal antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance
  • Response plan to control and manage the threat of multidrug-resistant gonorrhoea in Europe
  • Report on a pilot study for Molecular Typing for N. gonorrhoeae
  • Enhanced STI data collection from EU/EEA countries
  • Gonococcal strain collection for antimicrobial susceptibility testing 
  • Laboratory training covering N. gonorrhoeae diagnostic methods, susceptibility testing and molecular typing
  • Annual meeting for the European Network for STI Surveillance
