The second “Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in Europe” report, published jointly by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and WHO/Europe on 14 April 2023, shows high percentages of resistance to last-line antibiotics, such as carbapenems, in several countries of the WHO European Region. The report features data from 2021.

In 2016–2017, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) organised the third point prevalence survey (PPS) of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial use in European long-term care facilities (LTCFs) or HALT-3.
To mark the 15th European Antibiotic Awareness Day, ECDC hosted a launch event with the theme “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together”, an acknowledgement and reminder that keeping antibiotics working is everyone’s responsibility.
