For 2021, 24 European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries reported 4 476 confirmed cryptosporidiosis cases. The notification rate was 1.8 confirmed cases per 100 000 population.

Six countries accounted for 94% of all confirmed cases, with notification rates between 1.8 and 16.7 cases per 100 000 population. As in previous years, most of the cases were reported in autumn (peak in September), with a smaller peak also observed in spring (April).

Children aged 0–4 years had the highest notification rate of 6.4 cases per 100 000 population.
