This report provides an integrated analysis of relationships between antimicrobial consumption in humans and food- producing animals and the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from humans and food- producing animals, respectively.
In 2022, the first and second most reported zoonoses in humans were campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis, respectively. The number of cases of campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis remained stable in comparison with 2021.
From 1 January–24 October 2023, 335 laboratory-confirmed Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 cases belonging to three distinct microbiological clusters have been reported in 14 EU/EEA countries, the United Kingdom and the United States, affecting all age groups.
Since August 2022, cases of Salmonella Senftenberg have been identified in 13 countries worldwide. Case interviews suggest cherry-like tomatoes as a possible vehicle of infection.
Since June 2017, a cross-border outbreak of Salmonella Virchow ST16 has been ongoing in five EU/EEA countries, the UK, and the US. A total of 210 cases have been reported. No deaths have been reported. A majority of cases have been linked to local restaurants serving kebab meat.
This report provides an analysis of the spatial relationship between the presence and absence of autochthonous Leishmania spp. and clinical cases in humans and animals, and the presence and absence of their confirmed and suspected respective Phlebotomus spp. vectors, in Europe and neighbouring countries.
