At this technical meeting, tuberculosis experts from high-incidence countries (Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania) discussed ways in which ECDC can support with development and implementation of country strategies to prevent and control the disease.
WHO/Europe has been holding annual influenza surveillance meetings jointly with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since 2011. This meeting brought together epidemiologists and virologists – the national influenza surveillance focal points – from 50 Member States to discuss national, regional and global surveillance related to seasonal influenza and novel influenza viruses, such as avian influenza A(H7N9).
Every other year EU/EEA representatives meet to discuss the specifics of surveillance in the EU/EEA. The aim is to discuss TB epidemiology and progress towards elimination in Europe.
The third annual joint influenza surveillance meeting was held in Istanbul. The meeting focused on virological and epidemiological aspects of influenza surveillance, influenza vaccination, and new developments in the field of influenza prevention and control.
The levels of influenza activity in European countries reported by EISN members during the influenza season are based on three assessments: An indicator of the overall intensity of influenza activity in the country, An indicator of the geographical spread of influenza in the country, An indicator of trend in ILI/ARI sentinel consultations in the country compared to the previous week.
