ECDC presented the latest data mosquito-borne diseases in the EU/EEA, with a focus on dengue and West Nile infection, which are the two diseases that where most increases are seen.
ECDC, WHO and the German Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) have jointly developed public health advice for UEFA EURO 2024 to promote the safety and well-being of spectators attending matches.
As the summer season is approaching, ECDC is hosting an online scientific seminar to raise awareness of vibriosis and it associated risks. The main target audience is the European Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses Network but registration is open for anyone with an interest in the topic.
In 2024 and as of 30 of April, approximately 240 000 CHIKVD cases and over 90 deaths have been reported worldwide. A total of 18 countries reported CHIKVD cases from the Americas (11), Asia (6), and Africa (1).
Since the beginning of 2024, over 7.5 million dengue cases and over 3 000 dengue-related deaths have been reported from 73 countries/territories. Most cases globally have been reported from the WHO PAHO region, with Brazil reporting most cases.
In 2022, 27 European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) countries reported 731 echinococcosis cases. Of these, 299 (41%) cases were reported as Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato, 185 (25%) as E. multilocularis and 247 (34%) as an unknown species.
In a concerted effort to combat healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the Belgian EU Presidency on 6-7 May co-hosted a conference at the national public health institute of Belgium, Sciensano, in Brussels.
