New data for 2011 show that more than 121 000 new HIV cases were reported in the WHO European Region, including more than 28 000 new infections in the European Union and the European Economic Area (EU/EEA), indicating an increase for the whole Region compared to the previous year1.

The International AIDS Conference gathered those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic. The AIDS 2012 programme presented new scientific knowledge and offered opportunities for dialogue on the major issues facing the global response to HIV.
