Substandard education, low income, or other socio-economic factors result in the inequitable distribution of communicable diseases. Disadvantaged groups are especially vulnerable and risk greater exposure to disease because of environmental or behavioural risk factors. A workshop was convened to discuss new ideas to ameliorate the discrepancies between these groups.
The first European Communicable Disease Epidemiological Report produced by ECDC raised that the most important disease threat in Europe is posed by the micro-organisms that have become resistant to antibiotics.
This report shows information submitted by European Union Member States on the occurrence of zoonoses and food-borne outbreaks in 2005, analysed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Food Safety Authority.
