Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is an obligate human pathogen and an important cause of invasive bacterial infections in both children and adults, with the highest incidence among young children.
In 2014, 40 727 cases of pertussis were reported to TESSy by 29 EU/EEA countries. The notification rate was 9.1 cases per 100 000 population, higher than in 2013, but lower than in the epidemic year of 2012.
Illnesses caused by infectious diseases are common in children in schools or other childcare settings. Currently there is no common EU approach to the control of communicable diseases in schools or other childcare settings, and existing information is uncertain.
