The ECDC updates are based on available data reported through the European Surveillance System (TESSy) by the national public health authorities of EU/EEA countries.
In 2024 and as of 30 of April, approximately 240 000 CHIKVD cases and over 90 deaths have been reported worldwide. A total of 18 countries reported CHIKVD cases from the Americas (11), Asia (6), and Africa (1).

As of 4 January 2024, 728 human cases of West Nile virus infection were reported, of which 709 were locally acquired and 19 were travel-associated. In 2023, seven EU countries reported 153 outbreaks among equids and eight EU countries reported 251 outbreaks among birds.
