‘Exchange of Experts’ programme: Denmark/Ukraine on antimicrobial consumption and resistance
The seventh ‘Exchange of Experts’ programme meeting for European Neighbourhood Policy partner countries took place on 14-15 November 2023 at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The exchange was attended by five Ukrainian public health experts from different regional centres for disease prevention and control and the Ukrainian Ministry of Health. The meeting focused on the Danish DANMAP programme for surveillance of antimicrobial consumption and resistance in bacteria from food, animals and humans.
The Ukrainian experts learned about the historical background for antimicrobial consumption surveillance in Denmark, the current model in use and the main milestones achieved during the programme to date. They also visited different reference laboratories for antimicrobial resistance.
The meeting was organised in connection with the annual DANMAP seminar, where the Ukrainian experts had the opportunity to follow presentations on surveillance results for broad expert audiences, clinicians, policymakers, and representatives from the medicines industry.
Under the framework of the EU Initiative on Health Security, ECDC and EU Member States have set up an ‘Exchange of Experts’ programme to provide experts from European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) partner countries with opportunities to learn from the experiences of EU Member States within specific disease areas, and in turn, share their own experiences.
