ECDC country visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss the surveillance of communicable diseases

An ECDC team visited Bosnia and Herzegovina from 24 to 26 September 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to support the Western Balkans and Türkiye in strengthening the surveillance of communicable diseases. The visit focused on assessing the surveillance systems, identifying areas for improvement, and exploring opportunities for ECDC support within the framework of EU standards.

Throughout the three-day mission, the ECDC team and public health representatives from the country engaged in detailed discussions on critical topics such as data collection, data quality, management, and the dissemination of communicable disease surveillance data to identify actions to enhance the country’s surveillance activities, including detections of cross-border health threats.  

The findings from this visit will inform the next steps in strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina’s public health surveillance systems, ensuring alignment with EU practices and better preparedness for serious cross-border health threats.
