27 Nov 2023 - World AIDS Day 2023 marks a milestone in the ongoing global effort to combat HIV/AIDS.

HIV: Towards zero stigma

Understanding and addressing stigma is crucial for making UNAIDS’ vision of zero-stigma a reality, and to further support strategies to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. During this event, we will discuss the most recent insights on HIV stigma in Europe, how it is perceived in different contexts, knowledge gaps and examples of good practice to ensure that the zero-stigma vision is achieved.

HIV infection and AIDS

HIV is a virus which attacks the immune system and causes a lifelong severe illness with a long incubation period. The end-stage of the infection, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), results from the destruction of the immune system.
