Surveillance of surgical site infections in Europe, 2008-2009
Each year in the European Union, approximately four million patients acquire healthcare-associated infections and 37 000 of them die as a result. Surgical site infections are among the most common types of infection. All patients undergoing surgery are at risk of complications, including surgical site infections.The primary aim of this report is to present the results of the 2008-2009 surveillance of surgical site infections across Europe.
Influenza virus characterisation, December 2019
16 Jan 2020 - This is the third report for the 2019–20 influenza season. As of week 1/2020, 42 844 influenza detections had been reported across the WHO European Region; 85% type A viruses, with A(H3N2) prevailing over A(H1N1)pdm09, and 15% type B viruses, with 531 (92%) of 576 ascribed to a B/Victoria lineage.
