Joint European pandemic preparedness self-assessment indicators
Published by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, jointly with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Commission, this set of pandemic preparedness indicators is designed to assist Member States with the assessment of their pandemic preparedness in order to identify gaps, prioritise future investment and monitor progress in those areas that, by international consensus, are deemed the most important.
Assessment tool for influenza pandemic preparedness in European countries
The tool is used for ongoing country support visits by joint missions from ECDC, the European Commission, and WHO EURO. The tool follows the main components of the European Commission communication on pandemic influenza preparedness and response planning in the European Community, the WHO global influenza preparedness plan, the WHO checklist for influenza pandemic preparedness planning, and existing country preparedness plans.

22 Jan 2020 - The Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was first discovered in 2012 in a patient who died from severe respiratory disease. Since then, and as of 16 January 2020, 2 521 cases have been reported worldwide, including 919 deaths (crude case fatality 36%). Most cases have been reported from the Arabian Peninsula (and around 84% specifically from Saudi Arabia), and all cases elsewhere had a travel history to the Arabian Peninsula or were a contact of someone who had a travel history to the region.
