A total of 55 participants took part in the training, including 33 EPIET/EUPHEM/PAE fellows, 16 MediPIET fellows, four external MediPIET participants, and three local facilitators from ISS. Three of the participants (one MediPIET and two PAE) attended online.

The module provided fellows with the basic definitions and concepts for different types and models of time series used in public health surveillance and research, and with the skills needed to perform and interpret time-series analysis, and to communicate its results.

Fellows also acquired new competencies regarding geographical mapping and the use of GIS software.

The training was interactive in nature and consisted of plenary and practical task sessions focusing on communicable disease surveillance, applied research, and public health programmes. During those sessions, fellows worked on the exercises in R and Q-GIS, with assistance provided by facilitators. Each session was followed by a wrap-up session on the main outcomes and lessons learned.
