The meeting with Dr Ahmed Ogwell Ouma provided a good opportunity to take stock of the recent achievements of the ECDC4Africa project and the long-term perspectives for the partnership between ECDC and Africa CDC. Dr Ammon had discussions with Africa CDC Heads of Divisions and staff members involved in the ECDC4AfricaCDC project, exploring  possible areas for future collaboration.

The meeting with Ambassador Minata Cessouma Samate focused on the link between health security and humanitarian crises and aimed to identify ways to further strengthen the collaboration between ECDC and the African Union.

Dr Ammon also met with the Head of the WHO Liaison Office to the African Union, Dr Georges Alfred Ki-Zerbo, to discuss their priorities for pandemic preparedness, collaboration with WHO EURO and possible synergies.

ECDC is collaborating with Africa CDC to strengthen the capacities of Africa CDC in preparedness and response to health threats. ECDC and Africa CDC initiated a four-year capacity- and partnership-building project in 2021. The project is financially supported by the European Development Fund under the European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA).
