The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) is organising the 24th ESICM LIVES Annual Congress in Berlin on 1-5 October 2011. This congress is one of the major meetings, gathering numerous well-known international experts in the field of intensive care medicine.
On 4 October 2011 ECDC will be co-chairing, together with ESICM, an official scientific session on infections acquired in intensive care units (ICUs). During this session, ECDC experts will present data on ICU-acquired infections obtained from the Healthcare-Associated Infections Network (HAI-Net), as well as the results of a recently published ECDC risk assessment of the spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae through patient transfer between healthcare facilities, with special emphasis on cross-border transfer.
The congress will also offer the opportunity to discuss with interested ESICM Infection Section members about potential collaborations in the field of surveillance of ICU-acquired infections.
