Ebola virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda
A large outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease is taking place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Although information remains limited, we assess the likelihood of infection for people living in the EU/EEA to be very low.
Further cases are expected among returning passengers and crew due to the Andes hantavirus incubation period and potential on-board exposure. The risk to the EU/EEA general population remains very low.
Growing spread of multidrug-resistant Shigella in Europe
ECDC is warning of the increasing spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Shigella infections across Europe, particularly among men who have sex with men.
New data show that sexually transmitted infections reached record levels across Europe in 2024, driven by sharp rises in gonorrhoea and syphilis, and widening gaps in testing and prevention.
ECDC collects, analyses and shares data on more than 50 infectious disease topics. ECDC experts assess risks to Europe and provide guidance to help countries prevent and respond to outbreaks and public health threats.
