For 2016, seven EU/EEA Member States reported 238 West Nile virus (WNV) infections, of which 224 (94%) were locally acquired and 14 were travel-related.

West Nile virus infection

Most human infections are asymptomatic and the majority of clinical cases are mild and present with flu-like symptoms. In more severe cases there may be signs of encephalitis, meningo-encephalitis or meningitis.
