West Nile fever in Europe in 2017 and previous transmission seasons

Between 10 August and 17 August, 4 new cases were reported in Greece, in a previously affected area. Italy reported 2 cases in Emilia Romagna region. Three cases were reported by Romania. One new case was reported by Serbia in a newly affected area.

One West Nile fever Equidae case in Viterbo, Lazio region, Italy, was notified through the Animal Disease Notification System (ADNS) of the European Commission during that period.

Since the beginning of the 2017 transmission season and as of 10 August 2017, 24 human cases of West Nile fever (five confirmed and 19 probable) have been reported by Greece; three confirmed cases were reported by Italy and Romania reported four cases. In the neighbouring countries, seven cases were reported: four by Israel and three by Serbia.

In Equidae, 18 West Nile fever cases were notified through ADNS; ten in Italy, and eight in Argolida, Greece.
