Weekly influenza surveillance overview, 24 Oct - 30 Oct 2011 (Week 43)

During week 43/2011, low influenza activity was notified by all 24 reporting countries.
None of the 342 sentinel specimens tested positive for influenza virus. Of thirteen positive non-sentinel specimens, two were influenza A virus subtyped A(H1)pdm09 and seven were A(H3).
No hospitalised cases of severe influenza were reported.In the first three weeks of the surveillance season for influenza in the Northern Hemisphere there has been no evidence of sustained transmission in EU/EAA countries.
