A multi-country outbreak of S. Enteritidis delineated through whole genome sequencing analysis is currently ongoing, with 314 confirmed cases in Austria, France, Ireland, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. Confirmed cases belong to three closely related genetic clusters.
Public Health England reports that investigations into these genetic clusters have shown that the outbreaks could be associated with the consumption of poultry products, i.e. meat or eggs.
