Risk ranking of epidemic-prone diseases in the Northern African Regional Coordination Centre in Egypt
Between 20 and 22 May 2025, a regional workshop was held in Cairo, Egypt, on the risk-ranking of epidemic-prone diseases. The workshop brought together 34 participants from Northern African Union Member States, Africa CDC, the Regional Coordination Centres and partners.

Participants were invited to review a list of priority epidemic-prone diseases for the North African region and rank the diseases based on predetermined ranking criteria. The meeting helped participants to familiarize themselves with the Africa CDC risk-ranking tool and methodology to prioritize epidemic-prone diseases in the region.
The workshop was prepared and facilitated by Africa CDC with ECDC colleagues. The risk ranking tool used was based on the ECDC tool but adapted to the Africa CDC context through a series of consultative meetings in 2022 and 2024. Delphi and multiple-criteria decision analysis methods were applied to identify the list of diseases and score them against criteria. The expected output of the workshop will be included in the meeting report.
