Surveillance data from public online national reports on COVID-19 in long-term care facilities
Page last updated: 18 May 2022
This webpage presents data related to cases and fatal cases of COVID-19 amongst long-term care facility residents in EU/EEA countries (Table 1). The data are contained in surveillance reports published by national authorities, such as ministries and agencies.
To aid interpretation, Table 2 presents attributes of the national surveillance systems and surveillance reports; and Table 3 contains a list of caveats for those two tables. On 21 January 2021, ECDC sent Coordinating Competent Bodies in EU/EEA countries the draft tables, to verify the data sources.
The list of the data sources is at the bottom of this webpage. Additionally, the ECDC webpage ‘Online reports containing data and other information on surveillance of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities’ contains hyperlinks to surveillance reports and protocols published by national authorities in EU/EEA countries.
The ECDC webpage ‘Weekly COVID-19 Country Overview’ currently contains country-level weekly surveillance data regarding COVID-19 in long-term care facilities, within the country profiles of countries that have sent this data. These countries are:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Denmark
- France
- Germany
- Ireland
- Italy
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- The Netherlands
- Norway
- Portugal
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
The protocol for the reporting of aggregate national surveillance data on COVID-19 in long-term care facilities is published on the ECDC website.
The technical report published on the ECDC website presents description of the data collected through the surveillance activity each week from week 9, 2021 onwards, including the contextual information for the weekly trends that are collected by the associated ‘Periodic Survey’ and caveats provided by the EU/EEA countries that participated in weekly aggregated LTCF COVID-19 reporting.
