Reporting to the Head of Section AMR and Healthcare-Associated Infections (ARHAI), you will manage a team of approximately seven staff supporting the Centre’s work related to the prevention and control of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare-associated infections (HAI) as Group Leader Scientific Advice ARHAI.
In this position, you will have a wide variety of tasks that will give you the opportunity to:
- Lead, manage, and empower the Group’s staff, fostering effective team dynamics, encouraging a service-oriented mindset, providing timely and constructive feedback, and promoting professional development opportunities;
- Promote and maintain partnerships with European and international partners to strengthen Infection Prevention and Control, and Antimicrobial Stewardship;
- Lead on approaches to strengthen ECDC’s role in the area of One Health AMR including participation in relevant EU projects;
- Coordinate the work of the ARHAI Section related to Public Health Emergency Preparedness Assessments
- Represent ECDC at international meetings and events;
- Contribute to the formulation of the Section’s annual workplan, ensuring coordination and alignment of group activities;
- Act on behalf of the Head of Section during periods of absence or as requested, ensuring the continuation of the Section’s activities and the achievement of its objectives;
- Participate in ECDC missions and long-term deployments, travelling within and outside Europe;
- Contribute to other activities of ECDC as required, within your field of competence including the 24/7 duty system.
What are we looking for?
Formal requirements
For your application to be considered eligible you must fulfil all the following requirements by the application deadline:
- A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is 4 years or more, or a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma and appropriate professional experience of at least 1 year when the normal period of university education is at least 3 years [1];
- At least 9 years of professional experience [2](following the award of the diploma);
- Thorough knowledge of one of the official EU languages and a satisfactory knowledge of another official EU language to the extent necessary for the performance of your duties [3];
- Nationality of one of the EU Member States or of Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and to be entitled to your full rights as a citizen;
- To have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws on military service;
- Meet the character requirements for the duties involved [4]; and
- Be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post.
You will need to provide appropriate documents to show that you meet all of the above criteria.
Selection criteria
For your application to be evaluated further, you will also need:
- At least 8 years of professional experience (following the award of the diploma), of, hands on professional experience acquired in expert positions relevant to the job description;
- University or post graduate degree within the field of public health, epidemiology, medicine, veterinary medicine, or another field relevant to the position;
- Good knowledge of the EU policies, legal frameworks and mechanisms for emergency preparedness and response and related inter-sectoral collaboration;
- Experience with systematic literature reviews and production of scientific guidance documents;
- Demonstrated skills in providing scientific advice within one or several of the following areas: antimicrobial resistance including molecular surveillance, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship;
- Demonstrated experience in leading, managing, and supporting multidisciplinary teams, preferably as a line manager;
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Additionally, we will assess the following competencies:
- Ability to empower, motivate and lead others;
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships;
- Proven organisational skills and ability to plan and implement the work of a team;
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, reflecting organisational sensitivity and situational awareness in particular when engaging with key stakeholders.

Additionally, you can work up to 10 days a year from outside the Stockholm area.
Depending on your experience, the monthly basic salary usually starts at € 8911 and may be supplemented by various allowances including, as applicable, expatriation and/or generous family allowances. Salary is exempt from national tax and instead an Agency tax is deducted. We also provide financial support when relocating to Stockholm.

How does our selection process work?
Our selection process takes, on average, three months from the application deadline. All selection processes include a remote written test and a video conference interview; some selection processes may include additional steps.
After a candidate has been selected for the position, additional shortlisted candidates can be placed on a reserve list. The reserve list may be used when ECDC needs to fill similar positions at the same level in the future. The reserve list is valid until 31 December 2027 and may be extended.
