West Nile virus - infections among humans and outbreaks among equids and/or birds, 6 September 2023

Since last week’s update, and as of 6 September 2023, European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries reported 102 human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection and 8 deaths related to WNV infections.

Since the beginning of the 2023 transmission season, 26 outbreaks among equids and 115 outbreaks among birds have been reported by EU/EEA countries.
