Since the beginning of the 2017 transmission season and as of 5 October 2017, the EU Member States and the neighbouring countries reported 240 cases: Romania (54 cases), Italy (53), Serbia (45), Greece (48), Hungary (19), Israel (17) and Austria (4).
Sixteen deaths due to West Nile fever have been reported since the start of the transmission season: Romania (8 deaths), Greece (5), Hungary (1), Italy (1) and Serbia (1).
