The main objectives of the workshop were:

  • to share lessons learned and identified gaps from past and current health threats, such as on the influenza A/H1N1 pandemic in 2009, the recent Ebola and MERS CoV outbreaks.
  • to discuss roles and possible collaboration across sectors at national and EU level (civil society, NGOs, industry, governmental and international organisations) to further strengthen health emergency preparedness across Europe.

The invited speakers were Herta Adam (DG Health and Food Safety, European Commission), Guénaël Rodier (WHO Europe), Raed Arafat (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Romania), Fernando Simón Soria (Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, Spain) and Massimo Ciotti (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control).
