The meeting focussed on European action against cardiovascular disease and European cooperation in the field of transplantation. The meeting also featured a working lunch focussed on the implementation of the European Health Data Space.

Dr Pamela Rendi-Wagner informed attendees about ECDC’s work in the area of Substances of Human Origin (SoHo) and the European Health Data Space (EHDS) as well as how the Centre can further support Member States in these areas.

A focus on digitalised and integrated systems is a key part of ECDC’s reinforced mandate. ECDC is currently working on a dedicated eHealth Programme, the HealthData@EU pilot under EU4Health to enable enhanced surveillance of communicable diseases.

The Hungarian Presidency of the European Union has proposed a new action plan focussed on increasing the uptake of organ donation and transplantation in the EU. Dr Pamela Rendi-Wagner outlined the further contributions ECDC could make towards the quality and safety of organ donation through the Network for the Microbial Safety of Substances of Human Origin (SoHO-Net).
