Workshop on linking environmental and infectious diseases data

Scientific and technical publications
The focus of this workshop was to explore the possibilities for the establishment of a European Environment and Epidemiology (E3) Network. This network could integrate environmental and epidemiological data, generating information that is essential for public health. The workshop brought together a wide range of experts on infectious diseases, climate change, monitoring and evaluation, and computer modelling. In connection with the plans for the E3 Network, workshop participants proposed two projects: a pilot study on tick-borne encephalitis, which will provide a model for trend analysis and the impact of interventions; and a pilot on water-borne diseases that will serve as a model for an early warning system. The workshop took place on 28–29 May 2008 in Sigtuna, Sweden.
