Since the beginning of the 2021 transmission season and as of 22 July 2021, EU/EEA countries have reported 1 human case of WNV infection in Italy and no deaths. EU-neighbouring countries have reported no human cases of WNV infection.

During the current transmission season, within the reporting countries, a single human case of WNV infection was reported. It was reported by La Spezia in Italy, and it was the first time that this province reported a human case.

Since the beginning of the 2021 transmission season, 1 outbreak among equids and no outbreaks among birds have been reported by EU/EEA countries. The outbreak among equids has been reported by Spain.
