Between 29 October and 4 November 2021, European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries reported 2 human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection and no deaths related to WNV infections. Cases were reported by Germany (1) and Italy (1). EU-neighbouring countries reported no human cases of WNV infection and no deaths related to WNV infections.
Since the beginning of the 2021 transmission season, 35 outbreaks among equids and 8 outbreaks among birds have been reported by EU/EEA countries. Outbreaks among equids have been reported by Germany (15), Spain (11), Portugal (4), Hungary (3), Greece (1) and France (1). Outbreaks among birds have been reported by Spain (7) and Slovenia (1).
