West Nile virus in Europe in 2021 - human cases compared to previous seasons, updated 2 September 2021

Since the beginning of the 2021 transmission season and as of 2 September 2021, EU/EEA countries have reported 72 human cases of WNV infection in Greece (35), Italy (24), Romania (4), Austria (3), Spain (3) and Hungary (3) and 5 deaths in Greece (3), Spain (1) and Romania (1). EU-neighbouring countries have reported 9 human cases of WNV infection in Serbia (9) and 2 deaths in Serbia (2).
