External quality assurance scheme for Bordetella identification and B. pertussis typing 2013
This report presents the results of the first external quality assurance (EQA) scheme for Bordetella identification and typing funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The EQA study was conducted between February and May 2013 and sixteen laboratories from EU/EEA countries participated.
The EQA was divided into three sections: identification, serotyping of B. pertussis and genotyping of B. pertussis. All laboratories correctly identified the four Bordetella pertussis isolates, although there was significant variation in the methods used. One of the conclusions of the report is that an update of the recommendations on standard methods for epidemiological typing of B. pertussis isolates is required.
European external quality assessment programme for influenza virus 2018
11 Feb 2019 - Influenza epidemics occur every winter with high impact on disease burden, hospitalisations and excess mortality in countries in the WHO European Region. To understand the characteristics of circulating influenza viruses during seasonal epidemics, virological influenza surveillance is performed and detected viruses are further characterised at national influenza centres (NICs) that are part of the wider network of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS). External quality assessments (EQAs) are important instruments in assessing the quality of the generated data that are reported nationally and internationally through The European Surveillance System (TESSy).
External quality assessment for the detection of Bordetella pertussis by PCR, 2018
11 Jan 2019 - This report presents the results of the second European Pertussis Laboratory Surveillance Network (EUPert-LabNet) EQA scheme for Bordetella pertussis PCR funded by ECDC on behalf of EUPert-LabNet. The EQA study was conducted between February and March 2018.
External quality assessment scheme for Bordetella pertussis serology 2016
6 Feb 2018 - This external quality assessment (EQA) to assess the ability of national reference laboratories from EU/EEA Member States to correctly perform laboratory serodiagnostic tests for pertussis was a collaborative study organised from February to April 2016.
