Expert consultation on tick-borne diseases with emphasis on Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis

ECDC called an expert consultation to define a strategy at the EU level to strengthen the capacity of the EU Member States for the surveillance and prevention of tick-borne diseases, with special emphasis on Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis. There was a recommendation to add tick-borne encephalitis to the list of mandatory notifiable diseases in the EU. Although no consensus was reached on the notifiable status of Lyme borreliosis, the need to harmonise the case definition was identified.
