ECDC National Microbiology Focal Points from EU/EEA countries convened to follow-up on a joint strategy to strengthen the EU public health microbiology system for informing infectious disease prevention and control. A joint session with ECDC Advisory Forum was held.

The meeting focused on the following topics:

Updates from ECDC, Commission and WHO European Office on microbiology support activities
Discussion on the ECDC strategy and MS capacities for public health use of whole genome sequencing and update on laboratory issues related to Zika virus detection and surveillance
EU Laboratory Capability Monitoring system (EULabCAP) key results 2014, areas of potential improvement and follow up capacity building activities
