EU Ministerial Conference in Cyprus
From 5 to 7 October, the EU Ministerial Conference took place in Nicosia, Cyprus. ECDC Director Andrea Ammon participated and spoke about the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the monkeypox outbreak. She also took part in an afternoon plenary session on how the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the fight against communicable diseases.
During her speech in the morning session, Andrea showcased ECDC’s work on forecasting, covering topics like qualitative long-term scenarios, scenario modelling and foresight activities/horizon scanning. She also mentioned the role of vaccination strategies, risk communication and community engagement in this regard.
Other participants in the conference included the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, and the WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge.
