ECDC hosts online training on R for data management and visualisation

News

From 2 to 6 December 2024, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control conducted a successful online training on “Introduction to R for Data Management, Analysis, and Visualisation.” The training is part of EU-funded ECDC Accession support project and was designed to enhance data analysis and visualisation skills among national experts from the Western Balkans and Türkiye.

This initiative was a response to requests made during the Annual Meeting of National ECDC Correspondents and country visits focused on strengthening surveillance capacities.

The training included twenty-one participants representing ten EU candidate countries and potential candidates.

Training highlights:

  • The training introduced participants to the fundamentals of R, covering data management, basic analysis, and data visualisation. Sessions combined theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises, enabling participants to practice new skills in real time.
  • The training welcomed experts designated by national authorities in participating countries.

Participants were selected based on their experience with surveillance data and familiarity with data analysis tools.

The event received positive feedback, with participants emphasising the practical benefits for their work. ECDC remains committed to supporting capacity-building efforts that advance data-driven public health practices.
