After-Action and Intra-Action Review Training in Emergency Preparedness
From 5 to 8 June 2023, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and ECDC organised a training on After-Action and Intra-Action Review (AAR/IAR) for the Francophone countries of the African Union. The training was hosted in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The training brought together 35 public health professionals from 15 French-speaking Member States of the African Union. The objective of the training was to cascade knowledge to the Member States on how to conduct AAR/IAR, and strengthen the capacities of the Africa CDC and its Regional Coordination Centres (RCCs) in emergency preparedness planning and emergency operations.
The world café methodology was introduced as a participatory method to ensure inputs from all the pillars involved in AARs. In addition to several methodological aspects, the discussion also touched upon questions on the adequacy of the length of reviews at the country level, the reporting tools, as well as the process for Member States to request support from Africa CDC in conducting exercises for preparedness planning.
