Annual epidemiological reports on communicable disease threats to public health in the European Union
The following annual epidemiological reports cover the events, threats and actions taken each year related to the findings of routine activities carried out by the ECDC epidemic intelligence team. The objective of epidemic intelligence at ECDC is to rapidly detect and assess public health events of any origin to ensure EU health security as defined in ECDC’s mandate.

Annual Epidemiological Reports (AERs)
The Annual Epidemiological Reports (AERs) are key ECDC publication on the epidemiology of communicable diseases of public health significance in Europe. These reports give overviews of the epidemiology of communicable diseases of public health significance in Europe, drawn from surveillance information on the 52 communicable diseases and health issues for which surveillance is mandatory in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries.
