This report describes the external quality assessment (EQA) scheme for the European Legionnaires’ disease Surveillance network, for the detection, isolation, identification, and enumeration of Legionella spp.

This Reporting Protocol provides guidelines for data managers in reporting countries on how to prepare data for submission to TESSy, deadlines for reporting, subject-specific information (e.g. new changes to metadata), and links to further information.

Legionnaires’ disease remains an uncommon and mainly sporadic respiratory infection with an overall notification rate of 1.9 cases per 100 000 population for the EU/EEA in 2020.

The overall aim of the protocol is to support the implementation of a PPS of HAIs and antimicrobial use in European long-term care facilities, to meet the abovementioned objectives for ECDC surveillance.

This report presents an analysis of participants' results for the 2020-2021 External Quality Assessment (EQA) exercises in the EU/EEA countries.

This is the first EQA exercise for laboratories participating in surveillance from the ELDSNet network that has been
organised by ECDC since 2015 and the EQA format and arrangements have changed. The current EQA scheme
uses an outbreak scenario with a package of clinical and environmental samples for the participating laboratories to process, depending on their technical capacity and protocols.

This document provides the final report of a scoping review undertaken as part of a wider study on the ‘Assessment of point of care testing devices for infectious disease surveillance, prevention and control’ that was commissioned by ECDC and undertaken by RAND Europe between November 2019 and April 2020.

Extreme rainfall on 14 and 15 July 2021 and subsequent flooding in Western Europe has taken a high number of human lives and caused substantial damage to community infrastructure and the environment. This rapid risk assessment focuses on the most common infectious diseases and health risks associated with flood-affected areas, taking into account evidence from previous similar events in Europe.
