This rapid risk assessment concludes that there is currently no indication that these cases represent a significant outbreak of diphtheria among refugees in Europe.

Workshop on “Public Health benefits of screening for infectious diseases among newly arrived migrants in to the EU/EEA”
Under the auspices of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council, the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (HCDCP) in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, hosted a technical expert workshop on “Public Health benefits of screening for infectious diseases among newly arrived migrants to the EU/EEA” in Athens.

Suspected outbreak of poliomyelitis in Syria: Risk of importation and spread of poliovirus in the EU
Following the announcement by WHO of a cluster of cases of acute flaccid paralysis in Syria, ECDC conducted a risk assessment and concludes that this does pose a risk that polio might be imported to the EU. The Risk Assessment includes number of recommendations for EU Member States.
