Gonococcal antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance in Europe, 2018

Surveillance report - 20 May 2020

The surveillance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae antimicrobial susceptibility in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) has been co-ordinated by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since 2009. This surveillance is essential for detecting emerging and increasing antimicrobial resistance and making quality-assured data available to inform treatment guidelines.

Country visit to Ireland to discuss policies relating to antimicrobial resistance

Mission report - 21 Apr 2020

ECDC and the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Food Safety jointly carried out this country visit to Ireland from 7 to 11 October 2019. The visit was carried out following the invitation from the competent authorities to assist them in the development and implementation of their national strategy for tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR) based on a 'One Health' approach.

The European Union Summary Report on Antimicrobial Resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2017/2018

Publication, Surveillance report - 3 Mar 2020

Data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and
food are collected annually by the EU Member States (MSs), jointly analysed by EFSA and ECDC and
reported in a yearly EU Summary Report.

Rapid risk assessment: Increase in OXA -244 -producing Escherichia coli in the European Union/European Economic Area and the UK since 2013

Risk assessment - 18 Feb 2020

Rapid risk/outbreaks assessment aim at supporting the countries and the European Commission in their preparedness and response to a public health threat. They provide a timely summary and risk assessment of a public health threat for EU/EEA countries related to a specific event. They also include potential options for response. As outbreaks or public health events develop, ECDC may issue updated risk assessments.

External quality assessment of laboratory performance – European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), 2018

External quality assessment - 22 Nov 2019

This report provides an analysis of the external quality assessment (EQA) performance with antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network in 2018. A total of 860 laboratories (1 – 114 per country) from 30 EU/EEA countries participated in the EQA exercise. Six bacterial strains were used: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
