As every year, ECDC organised a week-long programme for observers from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), the European Committee on Infection Control (EUCIC) and the European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV) from 2 to 6 September 2019.

The European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE) is an annual three-day scientific conference, open to the wider communicable disease surveillance community.

The third Joint Meeting of the ECDC’s Food- and Waterborne Disease and Zoonoses Network and of the EFSA’s Zoonoses Monitoring Data Network was organised around the theme "One health approach to collaborative response to foodborne disease outbreaks in EU/EEA".

The joint annual influenza surveillance meeting by ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe took place on 6 - 8 June 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Invited participants were epidemiological and virological surveillance experts nominated by national health authorities as well as representatives from international institutions, covering the 53 countries of the EU/EEA and the WHO European region. The meeting was by invitation only.

Since 2008 ECDC has been working with the EU enlargement countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo[1], Montenegro, Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Turkey) to support and strengthen their capacities to participate in ECDC activities

The key objective of this meeting was to verify the rationale and objectives of molecular typing for surveillance of hepatitis E virus (HEV) through the hepatitis E network (HEVnet). The workshop reviewed HEVnet as a tool for molecular surveillance of HEV in Europe.

​The annual influenza meeting focused on new developments in influenza surveillance at the country and regional level, seasonal influenza vaccination programmes, provided an update on the global situation with regard to outbreaks of avian influenza and other emerging respiratory pathogens, and provided a forum for exchanging experiences from the past influenza season.

This workshop on AMR in Salmonella and Campylobacter was arranged in cooperation with the FWD Network and the EU reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance network.
