Re-emerging multi-country WGS-defined outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis, MLVA type 2-12-7-3-2 and 2-14-7-3-2, 6 February 2017
This rapid risk assessment assesses the recurrent multi-country outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis due to a persistent source of infection, with current or recent exposure in at least four EU/EEA Member States.

An outbreak of S. Enteritidis phage type 8 is ongoing in the EU/EEA. Isolates are part of two distinct but related genetic clusters. ECDC and EFSA are liaising with relevant authorities to facilitate the coordination of investigation response measures.
Consultation of the Molecular Typing for Surveillance Task Force
The meeting, which brought together National Focal Points for Microbiology and for Surveillance, allowed to review proposals for the second edition of the ECDC roadmap for integration of molecular typing into outbreak investigation and EU surveillance.

Moving towards better global foodborne disease surveillance

Epidemiological update: Multi-country outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 8, MLVA profile 2-9-7-3-2 and 2-9-6-3-2 infections
Since the ECDC and EFSA joint rapid outbreak assessment was published on 7 March 2017, six EU Member States (Belgium, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom) have reported 50 confirmed and 12 probable new cases associated with the multi-country outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 8 infections (MLVA profiles 2-9-7-3-2 and 2-9-6-3-2) ongoing in the EU/EEA. In addition, twelve probable cases have been reclassified as confirmed.
1st Hepatitis E virus network (HEVnet) meeting
The key objective of this meeting was to verify the rationale and objectives of molecular typing for surveillance of hepatitis E virus (HEV) through the hepatitis E network (HEVnet). The workshop reviewed HEVnet as a tool for molecular surveillance of HEV in Europe.
