External quality assessment of laboratory performance – European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), 2018
This report provides an analysis of the external quality assessment (EQA) performance with antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network in 2018. A total of 860 laboratories (1 – 114 per country) from 30 EU/EEA countries participated in the EQA exercise. Six bacterial strains were used: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Call for scientific collaboration to support genomic-based surveillance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae-antimicrobial resistance at EU-level
ECDC is looking to establish a scientific collaboration with an organisation which can perform whole genome sequencing (WGS) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, carry out related data analyses, share results of the analyses with ECDC and the participants of the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme as well as visualise the results.

Rapid risk assessment: Multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis
This rapid risk assessment addresses the public health risk associated with a previously unrecognised international spread of near pandrug-resistant strains of S. epidermidis as a cause of infection in several countries including EU Member States.
