Antimicrobial resistance and consumption remains high in the EU/EEA and the UK, according to new ECDC data
New data released today by ECDC show that levels of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial consumption in the EU/EEA and the UK are still of concern, particularly in the southern and eastern parts of Europe.
Antimicrobial resistance in the EU/EEA (EARS-Net) - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2019
This report is based on data reported to the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net) for the period 2015 to 2019, retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) and ECDC’s decentralised data storage for antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections (ARHAI) on 10 September 2020.
External quality assessment (EQA) of performance of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), 2019
This report provides an analysis of the external quality assessment (EQA) for the antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) performance of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net) in 2019. A total of 952 laboratories (1–95 per country) from 30 EU/EEA countries participated in the EQA exercise.

The European Union Summary Report on Antimicrobial Resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2017/2018
Data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and
food are collected annually by the EU Member States (MSs), jointly analysed by EFSA and ECDC and
reported in a yearly EU Summary Report.

External quality assessment of laboratory performance – European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), 2018
This report provides an analysis of the external quality assessment (EQA) performance with antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of laboratories participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network in 2018. A total of 860 laboratories (1 – 114 per country) from 30 EU/EEA countries participated in the EQA exercise. Six bacterial strains were used: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Training course on control of multidrug-resistant micro-organisms in health care settings
ECDC is organising a short course on “Control of multidrug-resistant micro-organisms (MDROs) in health care settings”. This training opportunity is addressed at healthcare professionals from European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries with current or future responsibility for the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) due to MDROs working at national or local level. The course is offered by invitation only and participants are identified through the ECDC Coordinating Competent Bodies.
